Karnes Wedding

My mom, Miles and I attended a friends daughters wedding yesterday. Fruit, cheese & beverages (tea, punch & water with sliced limes and lemons) were served at 6:30, the ceremony started at 8:00, followed by the reception. We left around 10pm and things were still going. It was a beautiful wedding. Simple yet very nice (and definitely out of our price range!)

Anyway, it was gorgeous! The aisle was lined with shephards shafts/hooks with glass lanterns on the end filled with 1/2 and inch of white sand on the bottom and a white candle in the middle. The groomsmen walked down the aisle to Sweet Home Alabama, the bridesmaids had their own song and then the Bride had her own song. I don't remember their songs, Sweet Home Alabama just stuck out to me because I thought it was cool. A refreshing change.

For the decoratings, they had tables with white table cloths and hot pink runners (2, crossing each other making a "t" shape), floral centerpieces, votive candles wrapped with wire and hung in the trees, moroccan lanterns, 2 chandelieres, a few white lights (not sure what they are called but they were round, white and kind of like a pipe...). They also had a few barrels of hay with blankets on them and a few pillows. There were white roman columns connected to each other through rice lantern lights. The wedding colors were orange and pink though there were other colors spotted randomly throughout (like the blankets on the hay barrels and the pillows). The decor was GORGEOUS!
Oh, and they also had huge industrial sized fans to cool everyone off since it was outside.

The food was delish! TENDER smoked chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies and dinner rolls.
Before dinner, while we were sitting at our tables waiting for the food, servers came out with plywood platters cut into the size of square cutting boards, topped with cubes and slices of cheese as well as fruit and a few mint sprigs.
There was a full bar, I tried to drink wine since I am still nursing Miles and can't drink alcohol. I took one sip and couldn't handle it (I'm not much of a wine drinker).
After dinner was over, the bridesmaids walked around with trays filled with popsicles, fudgesicles and ice cream sandwiches. Yum!
They then cut the cake. The brides cake was white cake with elite (I'm thinking elite because it didn't taste like buttercream, you could definitely tell from the texture and taste that it was mainly sugar). The icing was pink and the decorating were white/cream, made out of icing. The grooms cake was chocolate, though I am not sure on what kind of frosting because I didn't try it.

After cake, they started the music. The first dance was of course the bride and groom dance, they danced to "Blessed the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts".
They had a DJ and I think, after I left, they had a band play because the equipment was out there but I didn't see a band.

Out of that whole thing, although I wouldn't mind having her entire wedding, I don't believe in photocopying weddings(my translation: copying something exactly, or a very strong resemblence). I do want to incorporate the cutting boards used to serve cheese and fruit as well as the trays serving ice cream & popsicles. CUTE!
Our wedding colors are different though and I think, compared to their wedding, our will be more on the southern charm side and not the moroccan (though, trust me, I LOVED it!!!)

Just A Quick Update

I have not been posting lately because, to be honest, I have been pretty stressed out with wedding planning. We are now questioning the venue, so lets see how that goes.

Here are the BM dresses that we HAVE decided on... they are from David's Bridal and are canary yellow.

I haven't really been able to plan much since everything practically depends on the location. It's exhausting trying to find a location that is within our budget and something that we like!

Getting Started...

I tried to think of a comical name for this blog, preferably something with the word “finally” in the title since it only took us 5 years to get to this point, 3 in which we were talking about getting married. We’re finally doing it though, and this time it’s easier than ever and it just seems to make more sense now.
So, in this blog I will be updating everyone on the planning process, including most of the little details. This is going to be a wedding planned on an extremely small budget, so I guess it might be interesting to see what kind of challenges we go through to keep things inexpensive yet nice.

The date is set for November. The plan is to arrive in Port Aransas a few days early to enjoy the beach, get married, leave to go back home the following morning, have the wedding reception the next day and then leave for our honeymoon!
Since the ceremony will be at Port Aransas, we are limiting our guest list to about 25 people, then the reception will be the huge party with tons of guests.
I do want to figure out a way to record the ceremony so that all of our loved ones who weren’t able to make it will still be able to see it if they would like to. It will most likely include a laptop, a webcam and some website that hosts webcams live. I will need to do my research on that.

So far, the details that we have decided on...
- Location
- Cake
- My Dresses (1 for the ceremony, 1 for the reception)
- Bridesmaid Dresses
- Our Colors
- Centerpiece Decorations
- Signature cocktail
There are a few other things that we have chosen, but I will get to those later. Miles (my son) is asleep in my arms right now.

Location: Juan Veramendi Park

Cake: There will be 3.
1. My cake - I really wanted to have my white chocolate raspberry cake, but he's allergic to chocolate so I had to choose another cake, though I would like to eat my raspberry cake still.
2. His cake - pumpkin spice with cream cheese frosting.
3. "Our" cake - Alternate tiers of white and chocolate, all with mint buttercream. A few years ago when we had first started planning, this was what we decided on. The only thing that changed it was tasting the white chocolate raspberry (and the thoughts wondering what a creamsicle cake would taste like). I had a dream the other night that I was eating a chocolate cake with mint buttercream at my wedding and it was heavinly.

My Dress: My ceremony dress isn't really a bridal gown. I will get the info on that
later.
- My reception dress is Porscha by Maggie Sottero. I bought it when we
first started planning so it has been retired.

Bridesmaid Dresses: David's Bridal Style F13128 in Canary Yellow, picture soon to come

Our Colors: Ceremony - Aqua, Tropical Orange & Yellow
Reception - Forest Green, Tropical Orange & Yellow

Centerpieces: Mint plants potted in painted terra cotta pots, citrine jewels scattered around outside of pot. We both love mint, and the citrine is special to us because both of our birthdays are in November, we're getting married in November and the center stone in my ring is a citrine (because of our birthdays... I wanted my ring to be symbolic and unique).

Signature Cocktail: Mojito
